Authors of the 20th Century
Immediately after the denouement of the Second World War the public started to consider that the world’s core principles are understandable and logical . Both politics and social relations were depending on the ideas of progress , beneficial changes , trust in the rational , enlightenment , technical progress , and the ability to ground any activity from a rational viewpoint . Nevertheless , starting from the second half of the 60’s, the world commenced to deteriorate and now , 40 years later , we dwell in a changed kind of reality .
We easily note those advancements which are given us by new technology, but we rarely come to realize the fact that there are concrete ideas standing behind those solutions . The nature of the expected change was initially spotted by those people, who as a rule lived anteceding their time – poets and authors. Among the many authors whose poems have served for entertainment , there have been a few who have given the planet a new vision . They have more effectively than others other authors created and formulated authentic thoughts and have finally done a fresh intellectual and emotional substantiation of the future. They have spotted challenges in the mundane of our lives and have opened a array of problems, which were going on without being noted . They have assisted us to realize the new challenges , and sent us new aspirations .
These were the authors who have formed the vision of the entire generation, which has taken the blow of drastic change; change, which was perceived as anarchy at the start of the 21 first century. They have turned our attention to the most vital problems of the past epoch ; those issues , which the humankind , having gone through the world wars and unseen number of deaths, was reluctant to meet . Finally they were formulating the most critical dilemma “What will our future look like?”
In this work we will mention several of the most prominent authors of the 20th century. They have all significantly affected literature of their epoch, have showed looks and difficulties which were relevant to their countries and the period of time they lived in, and have made the readers analyze the existing ideology of values, having them realize that it is far away from being perfect. One of the most interesting angle of their work is that in most cases they have risen the readers’ attention in books and written works. in this case one of the most exciting success stories is that of a well known writer John Cheever.
The success of Joan Rowling can be called unique as she has found herself to be the first author in the world to make $1 billion by authoring fairytales. She is currently spending a significant part of her profit on charity, battling poverty and illness. The plot of the book was found while she was on the train from Manchester to London. When the publisher has first agreed to bring out her book, she has awarded her 1500 pounds together with a loving advice — to look for a stable job. He was hesitant of the idea that the young author would be able to make a living off of writing books. Joann has demonstrated the opposite - having created a number of exceptional fairytales, she has motivated the so-called non-reading people get back to reading books.
This paper cannot name and more or less accurately list all writers who have provided their gift to the world’s literature. They have been working and presenting ideas exactly into the thoughts of the millions, and in this way were shaping the future. Thus, as we can see, these writers were not writing for relaxation only, but they were also playing a significant role in creating the culture and the perception of a society of the 20th century.
